I have a question when you guys talk freight rates of $1.50 per mile are you counting all compensation? Fuel surcharge, hazmat pay, overweight pay? I've been at this (port container work) for about a year. As I figure it my cost of operations (salary not included) has been about $.88 per mile. John i don't believe you have all your cost figured john. no way can i operate my truck for that. i own a 2005 w900l with two more years of payments. are you figuring replacement cost, a profit. not salery for your self but how about a decent profit for your business? fuel is pushing $.70 per mile @ 5.7 miles per gallon. your only talking $.18 cents above fuel cost? tires, maintenance, grease, fluids, filters, insurance, permits, etc no i can't see it for less then a buck and some change before even reaching the break even point.

Is the O/O dieing? Teamsters were in Norfolk the other day recruiting I guess. The guy told me in another couple of years there would be no more owner operator truckers. We need to join the union and sell our trucks. I'm amazed this guy talked so stupid. Nothing he said made any sense yet he is one of their leaders according to him. Can they really believe that we are all going to disappear from trucking?
