As if most of you didnt see it. But Im gonna Post it anyway for those who missed it. PSC is back in Gate 4 hammering Trucks. They are also using GCP to watch for "violators" and passing the info on to the PSC. Pooler is also setting up camp on Hwy 80 watching for "Violators" and PSC watching Pooler from a distance while Pooler pulls a Truck over. Even saw PSC inspecting on Telfair Rd. IM amazed that there is this Officer shortage statewide and we have to pull the Officers from the Scalehouses to put them in cars. Train Civilians to run the scales. Looks like they sent every PSC Statewide to Savannah. Why not just ban all Trucks from Savannah! IM not understanding all this presence. Chatham County has an Officer shortage of 65 Officers. But Truck Drivers are criminals we need to focus on them. Foolish Garbage.

funny how the local police force can't stop-question-detain the illegals here because they are illegals. that's politically incorrect. they can sure go after us in a truck. i guess because i'm driving a truck we don't have the same rights as someone in this country illegally.

I noticed the same thing. Local city cops are back pulling over trucks but I haven't heard what excuse they use to stop anyone. As far as I know they're not allowed to enforce commercial vehicle checks without certification by the state so what are they up to now? I talked with a DOT individual and they told me the local cops have to have probable cause to make a traffic stop (such as tailight out, etc.) but can't perform truck inspections or demand to see shipper paperwork. They can check vehicle registration & your drivers license, that's about it for their authority. I think some are pissed because they got their local truck enforcement racket closed down.

Landline Mag, November 2011, Page 45. Georgia ends Local Police Enforcement. Im considering calling Paul Cosper and complaining. Not that it would change things.

I'm going to make a few calls next week to find out more on this. The local police departments have no business in commercial truck enforcement. It's all about $$$$. There is no safety explanation here. The state DOT along with the state police has ample coverage without rouge cops acting as truck enforcers. Garden City created a monster when they were allowed to start this program. There is no doubt about that. I like the idea brought up about no deliveries or pickups in the Savannah area. If you could get enough support of that for a few days it would make headlines in Atlanta. The thought of this port missing a few days in peak Holiday season would most likely cause the governors office to step in stopping this enforcement baloney once and all. This may win support from everyone in transportation including the steamship lines if worked right. If the locals are allowed to continue harassing trucks it will get worse. We certainly don't need nit-pick infractions on our CSA scores nor the fines that go with them. The local municipalities holiday budgets need a boast so expect to see more of this.

I agree and most of the Co. in town do not want the locals stopping the trucks. I will tell you that there excuse is there are too many unsafe trucks running in the ports and you have to admit that there are many trucks that should not even be on the road. They use this as the excuse to stop anyone that has a light out or any other minor violation they can find. We need them out of this business and one way is if the Co. would stop signing on these trucks that are falling apart. It wasn't long ago a hood fell off coming out of the port into the road almost daily a truck breaks down and slows traffic on Dean Forest, trucks do break but the rate it is happening in my mind is a direct reflection of the condition of many of the trucks running in this area. Also Dean FOrest just to remind some is not a race track, I really do support you all in your endeavors, but as usual the vices of the few will always affect the many. Good luck and keep up the good fight.

state enforcement should go knocking on the doors of a few local trucking companies who hire the biggest portion of junk along with their habitual bad drivers. they should tell these companies to have every truck and driver hired ready to report to the yard for inspection by the dot on a selected day. preferably give them only a one day notice. i bet they did this a couple times in garden city you would see the rest of these trucking gangsters begin throwing some of their hand picked flock under the bus. the trucking rates would soon go up too.

i'm all for cleaning up the junk trucks running around town working for handouts. they are busting our chops with their half a$$ legal trucks not to mention some of the non driving idiots behind the wheel who drive like maniacs in or outside the port gate. i'm not for city police having a clear hand to enforce truck laws. that job should be left up to the state to operate. anything else stinks of local police corruption.

I agree there are some junk trucks out there. Some of them make you laugh. Like the ones that have hoods falling off. My Son saw one in gate 4 one day and fell down laughing when the hood opened when the driver hit the brakes. But in all seriousness, the reason the trucks are in the condtion they are is because the Drivers neglected them due to poor rates and high interest rates on the home front. Could be a high mortgage or trying to pay Child Support. Bottom line is its the rates. Only the strong survive but there comes a point the rates have to rise.

i pulled up at pooler 307/80 intersection this past friday. a freight liner was at light with a yellow cargo strap across the back of busted hood holding it on. this didn't just happen. it was his regular hood latch from looking at all the oil around it. every time i think i've seen it all i'm surprised again. this truck had four slick tires on the tandem. who knows what was on the front? they should give that guy a bonus for driving that s#*t if he has a license? the dude had three placards on tank, door, sleeper. probably didn't work for any of them? one hr later state flags me over in my shiny 379-95 pete to ck me on the jimmie d parkway bobtail. out of eight lights across back of my tractor one running light was out in broad daylight. got a warning for it. i'm thinking serious about buying a wreck instead of trying to do right thing while all this s#*t runs around here cutting the prices. f&^k these trucking companies. let them have what they pay for. junk. this conatiner crap should be paying $2.00 for every mile. it would be that if this s#*t was off the road. with all the dot i don't know how these trucks still are running. garden city claims they were doing such a good job so where are the results? no we don't need any more money hungry locals back out here but the state dot needs to start driving unmarked and going on some of these trucking company yrds like the other driver said. shut the companies down who continue to hire these losers. maybe the port should be responsible for allowing unsafe vehicles to hook up to the boxes? i bet that would get someones attention fast? why should we have to compete with the unsafe drivers and their junk.

the bad apples are causing this harassment for the rest of us. i say let's start making weekly phone calls to atlanta. report these companies to the dot. everybody knows which ones encourage the junk and bad drivers. if we show we can help police our self we can stop the locals from finding political support to get back in the truck enforcement business plus shutdown a few of the worst offending companies. if they get enough complaints the dot will investigate the problem trucking companies.

Remember elected officials? ?? There's enough drivers in this area to elect a driver for any elected position..................... good luck getting any of these clowns to stick together much less vote. look what has happened in the past. we've had good people willing to help but the rest didn't bother to show even up for meetings. only a handful ever volunteer to help work as a group. the trucking companies know this. they love it. they use it to their advantage. this port trucking is not going to change unless drivers are willing to use force. force with a well thought out plan. that takes group effort. somebody one time said truckers are like herding cats. so true. no, we're stuck with this i'm afraid until people wake up. i hope that day comes but after fifteen years out here i'm beginning to doubt it.

The local police are still playing trucking games even though they are no longer certified to inspect big trucks. This is all the more reason for truckers in the Savannah area to form an organization to protect our rights. Too bad there is not enough support or driver interest to get this accomplished.
I bet a few trucking companies would like to see something happen with the harassment that's going on daily by the local law enforcement. The chiefs are pi$$ed over losing their department certification so their city police are looking for any reason to write us tickets. Maybe one day truckers will decide this again is a professional career, not BJ & the bear or smokey & the bandit!

Hey Everybody! The're Back! Looks like another "Crackdown." Yesterday there were 2 DOT sittin on Hwy 25 GC across from the Fuel Store. Today there were 2 in Gate 3, 1 on Hwy 25 and 2 Floaters. The ones in Gate 3 Stood outside their trucks with a Notepad and stared down every Trucker who passed. Making sure to make eye contact. Making sure to look you down like you just stole an EBT card. By 12pm, they switched up to Hwy 80 from Chatham Pkwy to Hwy 307. They were huddled, laughing and staring from the Shoulder of the Road. By 5pm, only 1 remained. The Bald dude with the White Tahoe. He busted 2 mean, angry law breakin Truckers! And the pathetic thing was Garden City was on the opposite side of the Road on Hwy 25 flagging Straight Trucks over with his Blue Lights on. Tell me that aint wrong! Be Ready Folks! They wont be happy til there are no more trucks and stuff sits at the dock to rot. Scumbags!

the junk in front of me had the pass side mirror duck taped on with convex glass missing, no brake lights, and a chain holding busted fuel tank. guess who they stopped when we got outside gate? yep, busted me for one marker light out on chassis that i was using on a local daylight move across town. all the d**n cheeezeee container lights were working when i was in the georgia port three minutes before. the chassis owner buys the cheapest lights possible along with dry rotted tires but thats all good for them. we are the sacrificial lamb so maersk line can rule the ocean .
