I would like you guys "who will voluntary do it" to send copies of the tickets you are receiving in GA to an address to be collected for later use. This is for violations in GA because as of yet SC doesn't "thankfully" operate this way. We need desperately to start collecting data on this subject if we are to succeed in doing anything about the current harassment of truckers by local municipalities in Georgia. This local police action against truckers in the cities of Bloomingdale, Pooler, Port Went-worth, Garden City, Savannah, has gotten totally out of control over the past two years.
We need to stop this local police harassment and can do so by working together as a coalition of concerned truckers. Our group does not condone junk trucks nor bad drivers who can present a dangerous liability risk for the general public on the our highways. That is not the concern here. What we have is a local citation scheme that's one goal is to generate capital for the local municipality involved. This not only is a costly burden on hundreds of hard working truckers but is damaging the safety scores of good drivers and companies who are trying to do the right thing.
Now that these city governments have had their local DOT truck inspection certification credential revoked it seems they are worse than ever out here looking for a reason to to pull over a truck for revenue purposes. Everyday without fail I see several trucks pulled over with a city cop behind writing tickets. The city police can no longer pull you anymore based purely on doing a truck inspection as before but with probable cause such as a torn mudflap, taillight out, dirt on tag, or in some cases observe a questionable driving violation they can then proceed to stop you & start writing up anything else they just happen to obviously spot. They also are waiting for the DOT to nab you in their jurisdiction with a roadside inspection. The city police then park to the side or behind the DOT vehicle waiting to take a glance at the inspection form so they can rewrite those violations up as their own money citation. We want to take and gather this information so we can approach our lawmakers with the true harassment that is going on solely for the purpose of providing a steady city revenue stream compatible to shooting fish in a barrel.
