Race for drivers Besides offering new services, chasing freight, and trying to keep their customers happy, all truckers face the prospect of coping with $4-per-gallon diesel, increasingly costly government regulations, greater capital expenditures for rolling stock, information technology investments, and higher driver pay.
Of all those cost, perhaps the driver situation is the most vital. Very few fleets are expanding significantly, mostly because they don’t have the additional supply of drivers. “The truckload driver shortage is as severe as ever,” Larkin says. “Finding drug free, CSA compliant drivers remains a challenge, despite commendable efforts on the part of many carriers.” www.logisticsmgmt.com/article/top_50_trucking_companies_anticipating_needs_exceeding_expectations www.logisticsmgmt.com/article/driver_turnover_rate_heads_down_but_remains_an_issue

yes but most still don't want to [y anything for drivers or owner/operators. the intermodal companies are the worst. funny because freight rates across the board have been going up but we have to fight to get any xtra. i know container haulers working at this port who move cans for a $1 per mile. after expense what do you have left for yourself profit? $.2 cents per mile? go figure what it coast just for diesel per mile.

Your right in everything you just said, runnin4nutin. But the key is in what you said, we have to fight to get whatever extra we can. The more drivers understand that, the more they become weak. This is no Jedi mind trick but true and proven business tactics. Keep it coming runnin4nutin, good conversation. Drivers welcome...
