yes i agree with all here. we need to do something this year. how can we begin to make that happen in charleston. i have spoken with a few other drivers who said that years ago there used to be driver meetings held at a longshoremen hall but no one knows why they quit. does anyone have a contact person there that might be willing to help us out? i guess i am asking for advice to proceed.

International Longshoremen Association local 1422 Contact President Kenneth Riley location of union hall: 1142 Morrison Drive Charleston, SC 9403 The Teamsters union had been working with Charleston truckers six years ago using the ILA local 1422 as a meeting place but the IBT leadership at the international in Washington,DC decided they would drop the owner-operators without so much as a decent goodbye to move on to the Westcoast. At the very same time they shut out Charleston truckers they were in the planning stages of the Los Angles, California clean port truck campaign where Teamster leadership eventually hoped to rid the industry of the O/O trucker entirely thus opening the door for company drivers only.. Truckers without equipment ownership rights who are driving a company owned vehicle as an employee are much easier to unionize under federal labor & anti trust law. The ILA leadership in Charleston was also blindsided by this Teamster maneuver after they had done everything possible to specifically help SC port truckers so yes, go talk with them & they may help you guys there in Charleston.

thanz for this ifo. i was there when the teamsters were using hall and we worked hard ti get the union in. many drivers were left out in cold for whatever reason they left and never knew why. you just answered those questions for me. it sounds like you have a lot of inside info that needs to be shared with truckers in charleston. could you come to a meeting if one is called? td

Sure... call your driver meeting, post that information on this forum and I will be glad to attend. I know a few other Savannah truckers who will come.
