who is the top paying company out here for someone just getting started pulling containers? i have purchased a clean 1994kenworth tractor to lease as an owner operator. for eight years i was a company driver for a major van hauler but did pull a few containers. i got tired of being gone all the time so i decided to give this a try. i have been reading the post on here for months so i see a lot of the bad companies to stay away from. i guess my question is who would be a good one to get started with without having to worry about getting really badly ripped out the gate?

Might I suggest...Believe NONE of what you read...and 1/2 of what you see. If you get a bad feeling at the door leave...If you ask questions and get honest answers -not smoke blown up your pipes- listen and consider- Some of the Companies listed up here have a few issues- But I would imagine so do the Guys and Girls that made those hasty posts..We are all in it together..Making the best of it with wise choices and eyes wide open will be your only saving grace driver!

first i don't know where your looking for work at(port location). california cartage in savannah seems to have some of the best rates according to drivers i have talked with out at the port but with current fuel prices none of them are close to where they should be. i move boxes for another carrier on a short haul steady run where i work for a flat rate that has increased weekly due to fuel prices. i am lucky in respect that this particular customer rate in place was already good from the start. the fuel has not impacted me at all due to the added fsc we receive but that is rare out here in general. good luck with your search. it would help if others knew where you were located.

sorry for not specifying what port. i am out of wilmington, nc. so i could lease to a company here or elsewhere. i don't think there are to many choices here but if not maybe norfolk, virginia or charleston, sc with loads back in or out of wilmington port area would be good.
