I'm wondering what is up with these Savannah companies wanting me to haul furniture loads?
Last week I've had calls from PB Express, PB Industries, Expedited Direct, Robin Hood, Pioneer, Milton, Heartland, Schneider and Sea Lane all wanting me to haul containers of furniture out of Savannah and deliver all across GA and SC.
Schneider claims to have a 24/7 drop and hook account on their furniture lanes. Some companies telling me that I wont have to worry about dodging the scale houses cause furniture loads are light weight and I'll be able to drive right on thur. (to that I say hmmm?)
They all claim "we are need of owner Ops cause we are just overrun with freight."
Anyone got any opinions about these furniture lanes?

More than likely the loads don't pay that much. They all have excuses such as "the loads are light" or " Its drop and hook". Those companies have cut the rates so much to get the work that by the time you get your share it is peanuts. Hey lets drive 4hours out and 4 hours back so we can put fuel in the truck and maybe have enough left over for a 12 pack of beer!

LOL
I know what ya mean. I always ask the same the same questions to ALL Agents/Companies that contact me...
1- What runs can you offer my Truck and how long will these runs last? A Week? Months? years?
2- What does each run that you are offering Pay and tell me does this figure include your drayage charge? What is your Drayage charge?
3- Tell me the FSC, not the percentage, the dollar amount you're paying truckers right now for these runs that you are offering my truck AND what will the FSC be for when fuel hits $4.20 gal? $4.30 gal? $4.40 gal? ----I mean lets be OFFENSIVE here, if they claim they all have a magic "formula" for figuring out the FSC as it increases then they should easily be able to tell anyone what these loads will be paying in the future when fuel hits these mid-$4 gallon prices.
4- If your company wont allow me to run under my own Authority, then what weekly and monthly FEES (escrow, insurance, tags, plates, workman comp ect. ect.) is your company gonna deduct from the dollar amounts you just quoted me?
5- I always ask them to please put their answers to my questions in writing, sign it and then please FAX me a copy to my home fax number. Alot of these Savannah Agents wont but a few do.
I don't think I'm being unreasonable by asking for these answers and one simple fax. I mean fair is fair, before leasing on they always have us Owner Operators fill out their Application which can be sometimes over 60 pages long!

i looked into these furniture loads. they are same as everything else "Cheap" then the guy tries telling me because they are light weight i will have big savings on fuel so i can run them for what they pay. last time i checked a few weeks ago atlanta was $550 on their loads. that's poverty pay even if you bob tailed there and back!
