atlanta leaves you around $250 after fuel for you & truck to play lotto. humboldt at $1803.75 takes around 260 gallons of diesel. this does not count my time or the extra expense to my truck for being hill climber. you decide. up to me? no thanks. i will pass on both. i love to work but not for the oil companies.

So your saying Sheppard pays $230 for a local Charleston city move? I guess the $471.75 is a Savannah to Charleston back to Savannah round trip driver...

i would be interested in placing my truck there if they are paying $471 on charleston rounds from sav. one driver was telling me they do trip leases. i would try that first to see how it goes.

This company doesn't pay what they claim. Their point man will tell you anything to sign the dotted line. I leased over there and found quickly the BS from the false claims in the beginning is just that,BULLS#*T. So for those who want to work for scum balls this is your golden opportunity to rock-n-roll. For truckers who want to succeed stay clear form these snakes.

They have been pretty fair to me, the rates are as promised and I haven't had any issues with them. I have heard from the Port guys that Matt gets out of hand on the local guys. However they treat the road drivers completely different and we don't have to deal with them. Many of the O/O in the city and on the road have been here for some time so that says something. I have brought on three friends and they are doing fine as well.

i don't know anything about this matt guy but i do know that this company fires truckers who express their own opinion this includes road-city what ever they do. it's happened many times in the past. in fact they let go several at one time for attending a driver action meeting in savannah a few years ago. i thought independent truckers were just that but howard sheppard wants dependent truckers not independent thinkers.

I wanna put my 2 cents in there about Howard Sheppard. I worked Local as a drayer here and it was horrible. I did make a lot of money but the treatment from Matt Holmes was a disgrace. I made many calls to Sandersville and was eventually told to ignore him. The road guys are treated differently because they are dispatched out of Sandersville and Charleston. U have to look at the business standpoint. They are in the business to make money for THEIR Trucks first. Then YOU get the rest. Considering HSI provides an overweight permit, IM sure they are taking 50 bucks right off the top on every load that is overweight. Because the rate includes an Overweight permit fee. Then they get their 25% on top of that. Whatever the rate is that they negotiate. I ran the road for them for quite a while and eventually quit because I was running 8 days a week for 1400 after fuel. Thats not making a living. Thats slave wages. I know many of the old crew that left and are happier and making way more than when they were at HSI. Where I am now SAV to Newnan pays me 685 to the trk. No overweight. 600 SAV to Augusta overweight. These are just examples to think about. And if you think that you blew a tire and HSI covered your ass free of charge your mistaken. They put that tire charge against your escrow. When you leave you wont see that money. Good Luck

this is true. i leased to these folk. what a learning experience. i know what not to do now. that lesson is: trust anyone with paying you without asking up front what each load pays before moving it. i'm not only talking about different loads but the same ones you pulled last week may be paying different money this week at howard s. they also treat you like an employee when demanding what they want you to do. that doesn't work both ways. i'm not their company driver when they want me to be then back to being an independent contractor when it's convenient for them. glad to be the hell away from them.

H.S.I. has alot of overweight freight that pays like regular freight,.. Plus they are big in hauling frozen chicken, so be ready to haul 96k lbs. daily,.. if you want to work local then the pay is $42 dollars a dray, and you have to drop and hook about 4 times and take each reefer box to the washout before you complete a turn. You can't do more than 4 turns, unless your lucky! All this for $42 dollars!?? They have the work for those who own a truck, and don't mind being told where to go, and what they are doing, no questions asked. It's not a bad place if you are a small fleet owner, with lots of money for wear and tear that comes from countinuously hauling over weight loads and not being paid what you truly should be. They are a company to go with if you are content with just, "ok, I can survive off of this income". But you won't be able to grow as fast as you would expect or should as a professional buisness owner.

drivers..howard sheppard is a total piece of s*^t company. we were treated like dirt. my best advice is do not bother filling out an application in first place. they r anti driver and u will get ur butt fired quick for mention the word union in any form. the walls have ears. i do not know how i lasted for two years but thank GOD it is all behind me now. best move i ever made was getting far away from them.

i hear a few of their drivers are talking with the teamsters. that should be interesting, i bet they don't last more then a day when discovered. i would like to see the union in that company.
