Let me start by saying this is not all about rates, but as I see it the problem with most Co. starts with the very first phone call to the so called recruiter. We have a bad reputation, because the first lie starts when they say hello. I have found that some people and Co. are just not a good match and if the recruiter is doing his job not just chasing a bonus or filling a quota he will tell the driver he doesn't think it will work and why. That in itself will help reduce some of the frustration. Don't worry I'll get you homw anytime you want, you'll make millions here. When the reality is just the opposite, also as a driver or owner you should be asking more questions, remember if it sounds to good to be true it probably is. Talk to the drivers for the Co. you know how to filter the BS out of their comments, remember there is no perfect Co. You just want to find the ones that treat their drivers the best at least to your standard. Make them show you settlements, make them show you rates if they can't answer your questions and make you feel like they are being honest run then not later. If the recruiter can't get you an answer why would you work for them. If you do then it is your fault, I'm not trying to make you mad just trying to make sure you understand, this is a drivers market we all need you find the place that fits your needs. Find the place that makes you feel needed and seems to be honest and that you will feel like you are needed. Don't just be a driver, remember you are a professional the CEO didn't just walk in and get hired after a five minute conversation, he did his homework. Why don't you.

i don't need to be talking with people that can't give me examples of what the loads pay or what the company expects me to handle on my end. when i call it's usually because a company has advertized a particular dedicated run or area i am interested in hauling to. i want to have a conversation with someone that can give me the specific information i require up front. not knocking you but i find most recruiters don't know squat about matters that are important to me but only push to send in an application or make an appointment to come to the company terminal to learn more. i don't proceed without knowing what first i will make and what to expect. i am not blindly going to fill out dozens of applications or drive around company to company. we can cut through the bs in the first five minutes or less on the phone and not waste each others time. if i can't get satisfaction over the phone or at least an email with the information i have requested why should i bother driving over to talk to anyone at the company. time and gas is money so let's take care of the simple things first or at least find me someone within the company i can talk with if you don't have the answers. again not saying you don't have the answers but most recruiters i have dealt with do not.

That is exactly what I was trying to say, most of the so called recruiters in this area are just Operations folks who only care about filling a lane any way they can. They do not care about the driver/owner, I just want everyone to think about it, right now all I see people talking about is the rates, I do agree that is where you make your money. But I can raise the rate .10 per mile and then deduct it in the rear by .25 if you don't ask the right questions up front. Please take the time to learn the business and not get suckered in by one number. I hear it everyday well this Co. pays more than you, but when I ask what they charge back the driver/owner does not know. They should be getting the whole story, we should be educating everyone one the cost of running a truck and a Co. so we all see things from equal ground. You guys work to hard to not understand how they get you in the back office after they tell you they are going to pay you the best rate. It should be about what you can make in the end not up front. Believe me guys it's what you take home that matters not what you get paid on a load, the end will justify the means if you run the numbers. Many of you understand but many don't.
