it's only going to get worse. the fsc we are being paid is a stinking joke. i can't move freight at these pump prices for their rates. if the company i'm leased to doesnt provide better relief by end of next week i am parking my truck. they either dont understand our issues or do not give a crap. i wont lose my truck over some customer that wont pay a decent surcharge but we really dont know if the company is collecting the fees or not. anyway after next week there will be one less truck moving their boxes.

i parked both trucks last week driver the minute our terminal manager told us they would check into raising the fsc this week. i don't pull loads based on (waiting to see). make the decision up front not after the fact. just goes to show you how stupid they think we are. he probably already has it in his pocket from last weeks moves.

Many Co. agree that you need more especially for fuel, and I think you are right to consider parking your truck until something changes. However you have to remember that Co don't create the fuel surcharge it comes from the Govt. and then many customers have there own and will not pay the Govt rate. You blame the Co. and in reality you should be contacting your Govt Rep. and raising hell. Why you all think the CO. control the world just kills me, there are ssome that do not give you the entire fuel surcharge which is illegal and should be made public for all to see, just remember if you want the rates to increase, you should pull for Co. that are not afraid to bid decent rates, but when you pull for this broker or small Co and they go out and under cut the already low rates what do you expect. It's time to start working as a grup and stop working as individuals to fix this mess.

I worked for one of the larger container trucking companies until last week. This completes the round of six companies over the past five years. Most companies around Savannah are all same when it comes to cutting rates or fudging on what the loads actually pay. In a perfect world Savannah truckers would stick together shutting down but only a few choice companies who signed a trucker contract pledging not to undercut each other while paying each of us a decent rate. Every driver would go work for those companies who signed,no one else. Let the rest go out of the container business. I don't know what legally could be done to make such a thing happen but I'm sure many drivers would be interested in exploring this idea if someone has the knowledge of where to start. I've heard this subject before but drivers in Savannah seemed to enjoy being screwed over more then making money. Sorry but that's the way I see it after fifteen years working around this port.

we could easily get more money if most drivers at port would join in. the shippers would pay to get the trucks back. the trick is how many drivers have the brass to pull this off. how many rats will keep working while the rst shut down? i like the contract mentioned. how can that be done first? a lot of questions to be answered before makin a giant move like this.

We need something new started in Virginia too. The same issues at the ports of Hampton Roads are killing our guys. Owner-operators everywhere need to ban together. Not just in one location but all along the east coast. The fuel might spark another mutiny at the docks ;D

There has to be a means to hold the GA port responsible for the rate cutting atmosphere they encourage by manipulating their vendors. It's not productive to keep bankrupting small truckers while the giant ocean shipping customers enjoy discounted freight rates from workers suffering. They're not producing the good paying GA jobs which the GPA brags is one of their top priority goals. It's time to clean up the GPA.

heck with the ga ports.we should go after each company one at time. take the worse one first. put them out of business. whatever takes. call dot , state, turn them in to any gov office . call labor board on them. irs. it can be done. pick one company.make calls every day.

In 2002 the national average for diesel was 1.32 . Last year it was 3.84 . the rate did not go up for the same margine .they stagnated and the fuel surcharge did not help much either . tires. oil change , parts . labor all went up . I think trucking is just bad right now

Hang in there Yanis. Trucking is going to get a lot better before years end according to projections by the ATA and other transportation experts. The shortage of qualified drivers is on the increase and the owner-operators day will return. Saying that, it's always wise to learn as much as possible about the many opportunities in coming months that will open new doors in transportation. Don't limit ones self to container hauling but look around at the direction this industry will head in 2012. This massive oil field production will lead to thousands of new jobs in transportation and create a void where drivers have left other parts of the industry to go participate in the mid America black gold rush. It's not just oil but housing and manufacturing will eventually return and specialty type trucking will be in high demand with the shortage of those who have permanently left this area.

i took my truck and we left for the mid america oil fields. best thing i ever did. this is real trucking.we work every day pullin tnk. i make between $800 to $1,100 daily hundred mile radius. i don't know if i will come back to charleston ecept on vacation. best of luck back to you guys. keep the faith. deep six the containers.

i took my truck and we left for the mid america oil fields. best thing i ever did. this is real trucking.we work every day pullin tnk. i make between $800 to $1,100 daily hundred mile radius. i don't know if i will come back to charleston ecept on vacation. best of luck back to you guys. keep the faith. deep six the containers. i'm talking to a fellow now about working in nd. he says they are doing 24/7 shifts two drivers to a truck. they are hiring only truckers who can work their truck on those terms. he told me they pay $120 per hr 7 days week for truck & driver to haul water tank or pull frac sand to well head. it is going on in four surrounding states including now in co.
