you guys that pull containers should band together coast to coast. the rates that most drive for are working for are over twenty years old. you can't make money running a truck for 1988 freight rates.

$200 per day is $ 50000 a year from which you deduct $20000 for maintenance and repairs and truck replacement fund or truck payment whatever you wanna call it. the net becomes $30000 .This what the average port trucker is making here in Oakland on a 10 to 12 hours work day .in other word about $ 12 an hour, so we are very far from the $27.5 you are talking about. Of course we have a lot of owner operators making more but it comes with longer hours and illegal stuff sorry but that sounds pretty d**n foolish to me working your own truck 12 hr days for that little bit of change. i make three times that on local haul with my truck and work four very seldom five 8 to 9 hr days. i don't understand why anyone would continue doing this unless their drivers record is terrible? a lot of companies are needing drivers badly today. they are paying much more money then that driving a company owned truck.

Wow, I feel guilty after seeing these rates. I have had my own GA authority for two years now with my van and the 6 years of hauling containers was fading from memory. I feel bad for you guys. I'm not going to mention my rates but they CRUSH!!! 90 cents a mile and a fsc, and I go through brokers. Maybe I should lease some trucks on?

i am leased to a company with my own flat. everything i pull pays no less then $2.70 per mile to my truck. that's only if going into a good load zone area where i load within at least twenty miles of where i last dropped off . if it's a difficult load, bunch of extra tarping, or time consuming crap, oversize, etc. it's more money. if i move something to a bad freight area i have to dead head out of like say miami it becomes $5.00 a loaded mile. funny i seem to have more work then i can handle every week so i don't see why anyone would operate their tractor for the reticules rates i see these container companies paying . your getting f^&ked royally at the port drivers. the post about drivers being happy at the end of the day is what's wrong with this industry today.

>>the post about drivers being happy at the end of the day is what's wrong with this industry today.<< what i meant say drivers with their own truck who are happy at the end of day with $200 left is pathetic. your wasting your time and screwing over everyone else by hauling cheap with your own truck. your not even in business.

you're right shaddog it is pathetic , $200 just does not make it for an owner operator anywhere. but it is the sad reality . I understand that most of us should not be in this business since we are screwing everyone else the opportunity of making a good living , that's what happens when you have an over supply of truck owners vs available loads. In Oakland we have more than 5000 trucks for work that can be done by less than 3000 trucks. Also there is an other aspect for the whole situation which is very important that anyone can verify by himself if he has the opportunity to drive near Oakland or Long beach ports 90% of containers haulers are foreign born mostly asians, indians and latinos coverting their Dollars to Roupies. Pesos Wang and so on. Trust me it is better to be a driver in this kind of situation.

I think your numbers are fair at 27.50 and up per hour after expenses. My question is then why is it I have O/O making that and more and still here it isn't enough. Understand I would like to see the rates increase, but with all the agents that operate here that have whored up the market it is very hard to keep the pitiful rates we get now. But of course it is still our fault that many O/O choose to pull freight for the very Co. that have ruined this market. I know that is not all of you but I just don't understand why it seems that all the anger is pointed at every Co. in town when there are a couple that pay all they can and still get named on here by the few that really don't want to work as terrible and cheaters. We had an O/O leave owing us 5,000.00 and we didn't try to sue for the money, but it will hurt the rest because now we cannot help them when they have a problem without getting a note signed agreeing to pay no matter what. When before this happened we would just take care of it and set up a payment schedule. There are bad on both sides I but when you lump the true Co in with the agents it just isn't fair. And I know that life isn't fair, just realize there are some out here that wish you all the best. There's plenty blame to go around. I've had enough of the crap myself. Sorry but it's time to look out for myself along with a few close friends. I have a couple decent trucks. I'm running one part time. My idea of part time makes more money in two days than most pulling boxes make in a week and a half. Anyone can do it but first you have to know how to say NO to garbage. Those wanting to make trucking what it should be I welcome working with you. The rest? Well good luck. No one is going to do it for you. You have to take the steps yourself to make this work pay.. I don't move containers unless they are premium pay. I don't work cheap, never have, never will. Most containers are cheap freight. It doesn't have to be that way but because of the hundreds of drivers out here who either feel they must work for nothing, absolutely don't know what they are doing or are too d**n scared to do anything about the system it is what it is.... Funny thing though, there's plenty of good paying freight out here so why do people feel they should continue to cut rates. Maybe one day we can somehow resolve that but for now watch your back...

I average $1.90 per mile empty, loaded. It pays the bills and makes for a simple living. That's about the scope. $2.30 would be more in line with prices out here today. I see some of these guys working the port for a dollar a mile. How they feed them self or repair anything is beyond me.

i gross around $5,600 on average every week running over the road with my single drop deck trailer. i take off a month or more every year. these guys who move port containers are going backasswards when you figure the expenses against their pay. nope i don't want any part of that garbage detail at the port. i get as much home time if not more then they do and a lot better money. lol

$2.75 average per mile empty or loaded plus all additional accessory charges or my truck stays parked. I don't haul cheap freight for anybody so there's no need in asking me to do that.

containers will always be a cheap ride. an easy business to get in so what do u expect. the companies will sell a truck no down. the money sucks but simple to get behind the wheel for the beginner.
