THERE IS WHAT I LEARNED AT THE PORT . INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS LEASED TO COMPANIES MAKE ON AVERAGE 500 TO 700 A WEEK AFTER ALL EXPENSES. COMPANY DRIVERS TAKE HOME MONEY IS AROUND 900 A WEEK. MY BEST ADVISE IS = DO NOT OWN A TRUCK EVEN IT IS GIVEN TO YOU FOR FREE. IT IS JUST MORE HEADACHE FOR LESS PAY AND WHEN YOU DIVIDE YOUR TAKE HOME PAY BY THE NUMBER OF HOURS YOU PUT INTO THE JOB . THE RESULT IS LESS THAN A MCDONALD WAGE. SO AGAIN STAY CLEAR OF OWNERSHIP AND REMEMBER YOUR BIGGEST OBSTACLE IS LIKE ALWAYS YOUR FELLOW TRUCK OWNERS WHO GO FOR CHEAP LOADS . IF YOU LIKE TRUCKING AT THE PORT , AVOID LEASING TO ANY COMPANY EVEN THE MOST HONEST ONES. GET SOME COSTUMERS AFTER ALL YOU ARE DOING 99% OF THE JOB . YOU ARE JUST MISSING WRITING THE BILL AND CASH THE CHECK,.

any trucker who makes 500 to 700 per week after expense was never in a business from the start. no loss here. actually that is a plus for everyone else. i find that difficult to believe but if true too bad. goodbye to the cheap rate idiots who work for nothing. if enough go out of business the companies will have to raise the bar. a driver with his own truck after all expense paid including paying himself a daily salary should make a profit of at least $350 every day. that is on the low side or he is operating a d**n non profit free service not a trucking business.

Any O/O working for that kind of money really needs to think about everything. That is less than a slave wage, I did a little math based on our O/O and they are making a pretty good living to go home every night and only go in and out of the Port all day. I am not making light of the frustration of Port work I would go crazy doing that all day. However most of our O/O are making about 1575.00 a week after all expenses and if they put about a third back for maint they are still clearing over a 1000.00 a week so they make almost 82,000.00 a year and if they put that 1/3 back for maint still have over 52,000.00 to live on working an 8 hr day. Again I know the Port is a challenging place but they choose to work there so that seems like a pretty good wage it breaks down to 39.00 an hour before they deduct ther maint and 26.87 after the maint. This is not DOnald Trump money but more than most of the people that work in the country. O/O should and I have said this before talk to others do the math and ask the Co the tough questions before you lease on. It is your business please run it that way and things will improve for everyone.

$500 to $700 a week as an owner-operator? ?? amazing, a fool born every minute. no wonder intermodal freight rates remain in the crapper. when will the endless supply of mental midgets run out?

He said after ALL EXPENSES.To me that means fuel ,driver, insurance, tags, payments, maintenance, taxes and anything related to owning a truck.Sounds good to me if thats profit after EVERYTHING else is figured. Then the other thing you have to remember is hauling cans theres a good chance he is running less than 2,000 miles a week...Just my opinion but thats not bad.Maybe I`m doing something wrong. How much do the rest of you CLEAR after EVERYTHING is figured??

I put $1,182.00 in the bank last week after paying all expenses including my self a $550.00 salary each week. The truck grossed $2476.00 working local from port & the rail. I average around $2,300.00 each week from the piers which amounts to approximately 300-400 miles every week.

i see drivers everyday paying for trucks but making $150 each day after fuel. many think that is somehow making money. really sad. i figure at least $75 per hr for you and truck. thats' local city work. if your not close to that you need to find another career. no kidding. this work should pay good money. the port and stevedore companies are not working for substandard wages.sounds silly but there should to be a mandatory business school for 90 percent of these owner drivers to attend before being able to sign a lease. most dont' have a clue how much they need to make in order to keep up the truck.

container hauling is scraping the bottom of barrel. u guys should have a trucking contract through the longshoremen. they make the money while truckers work for peanuts at piers. the secret is sticking together. something truckers hauling containers cant do. if trucks were to completely stop the ports would not be able to function but your problem is idiots always willing to keep running for a few nickles above fuel cost. i have been there where you are now but no more. the type driver running the port today is mostly those who cannot work any place else so any unity from this bunch is nearly impossible. good luck to the ones who are trying to break from the pack.

No one in the port can guarantee the good rates. They come when they come and when they go. There is always a slowdown and that to curb your salary. Whether you get to your top number fast or it takes all year there is a ceiling.

We are s#*tted on by the greatest group in maritime labor. Is it that hard to learn, they show us what to do everyday. Put yourself and family first backed by our collective interest and f**k everybody that dare oppose it. Trucker UNITY, kill this independent company crap if divides and the message gets lost in translation.
