Re: ILA-USMX Contract Extension
The Waterfront Coalition is proud to announce that the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service has helped negotiating parties to agree to a 30 day contract extension to the ILA-USMX Master Contract as well as reach a tentative agreement on container royalties. FMCS Director George Cohen is "cautiously optimistic" that the parties will resolve their issues to reach a collective bargaining agreement within the 30 day period.
The FMCS will be setting the schedule for negotiations in order to negotiate outstanding contract issues including Port of NY/NJ issues.
"The container royalty payment issue has been agreed upon in principle by the parties, subject to achieving an overall collective bargaining agreement. The parties have further agreed to an
additional extension of 30 days (i.e., until midnight, January 28, 2013) during which time the parties shall negotiate all remaining outstanding Master Agreement issues, including those relating to New York and New Jersey. The negotiation schedule shall be set by the FMCS after consultation with the parties."
-Statement by FMCS Director George H. Cohen
TWC has been happy to work on behalf of our members this year, especially through these difficult labor contract negotiations. We are hoping for a speedy resolution in January, and we look forward working diligently for you next year. We hope to see you in Long Beach in January. Happy New Year!
