How many of you on this forum think an established owner-operator driver association would help us out down here in sugar town? You can speak up on the forum or if you prefer send me a private email message seawheels2000@aol.com Actually a private message might be better for now. Yesterday several of you called a special meeting. Of course I was more than happy to be invited. It's been a long time..
We discussed this very subject. I was pleasantly surprised at how many besides myself have a keen interest in doing just this. I took the initiative to ask for some help from outside the area before attending the meeting. That was also discussed. Our friends agreed to lend us a hand. We each need to express out thoughts about what goals we can expect to accomplish and where we need to go with this at the next meeting. A date for that is in the works. We also have the support of two law firms who gladly will work with us on a few specific items of old business.
I'm looking forward to seeing everybody again soon. Please if you have any questions don't hesitate to shoot me an email. This invitation also goes out to any agents or trucking company interest who we've worked with in the past or who would like to consider an affiliation, sponsorship, or working relationship with a level headed group of local independent truckers. Yes we will sit down and discuss reasonable options with any companies who treat their owner/operators with respect within this industry.

i'm not sure i understand everything going on but i would like to be at your first meeting. it's very important truckers have a local association to join. will there be a membership fee to attend meetings? i used to belong to a haulers assoc, in eastern maryland before moving to bluffton a few years ago. kj

what we have here drivers is a group of d**n liberals telling us that our trucks are dirty burning diesels so they must all be replaced. It's time to take care of our own problems without these outsiders stirring up more unnecessary trouble for us. they must really have rocks in their head thinking we will fall for this nonsense. they are not here to help but to run us all out of business. our independent contractor status stands in their way to replace us with union members behind the wheel. think about it, why would the union be so concerned with clean burning trucks? most our trucks are already clean burning. another few years that will occur naturally without more regulations because new trucks today will be used trucks tomorrow. we don't need new trucks. we don't need more d**n regulations. what we need is the port to move their ass faster and we need more money to haul their freight

The guys used to pass an offering plate around at the last meetings that were held to collect a few bucks toward expense or rental of the meeting room. I don't know where the first O/O meeting will be held at but someone will post it on here.. Just pay attention, bring a friend or three and enjoy. Glad to have you from Maryland. A lot of folk are anxious to get something started back again. There hasn't been anything for the independent trucker to hang his hat on in a while. The Teamsters are in town again but their new employee campaign leaves a lot for the imagination. I think they best at organizing company drivers but as owner/operators we don't fit into their prime objective. Truckers who have ownership in their rigs need find a little different route through the Savannah transportation jungle. We have a few good ideas on that subject so lets all get together and form a working group that can start making some viable plans together while at the same time educating the new guys on the block so we don't repeat past mistakes..

you fellows have convinced me. i want to be part of this up front. i know a few truckers where i work that will also join. question for you? you may want to take this off line. is it possible to work our grievances out with a company if they are willing to sit down and seriously talk with us? i have heard in the past this may not be legal because we are considered a small business. if so i know a couple of names who may be willing to talk.

Sounds good to me drivers. I have been listening to the noise across the street. What other choice do we really have. I would rather risk repeating a few stupid mistakes trying to do something our way then do nothing and be banned from operating my truck

we need to shutdown for one solid month. why go broke over a period of time.take the port down with us in one swift kick. call it a strike or whatever. just stop all the trucks at once. no one move any boxes for a month. the first day give them a list of demands to meet. the third day give them a location to meet at. bring them all in to the meeting. not just the port people but all the steamship line people. let them fight between each other who caused this mess to blow. i bet it would spread up the coast top other ports if we did a good job of it in savannah. that is what we need to break this horse.

Hello String bean, You sir have the right idea that has to be done no matter what. You will never get last year, last month or yesterdays money back. With these laws and gimmicks we can't get 10 minutes back. One problem I'm in NY/NJ same sh_t we don't need division, they are oppressing us coast wide if not nationally. I'm now a company driver, independent for the last 8 years. Got tired of boxing with the IRS with those crack headed, earnings. Lol Not doing any frickin better just getting by, same SH_T different toilet.
