Gentlemen. Why is the Teamsters union in my face with this ms classification rubbish? It's appearing across the nations trucking info network. I see no good to come of this for anyone unless you are a company driver. This is bad for the owner*operator trucker. What is the motive behind this? Does anyone see this as a threat to our life style or is it just me getting worked up?

Don't worry or over react h castro, you have a contract. If you think into the future, look into you own authority. They can change the rules for the ports, but you don't have to go into the ports to make a living. Teamsters are trying to capitalize on an opportunity. They see that truck drivers are disorganize and confuse. Where do you thing the confuse come from? (Hint: Management)

Yes, Teamsters don't want the owner-operator trucker to survive. We are certainly in the way of their unionizing an all employee company driver workforce. The faster we dissipate into thin air the better for them to be able to unionize these employee drivers they want to magically create. They're holding rally's around the country in the next week or so to promote their new ms-classification campaign. I listened to one of their organizers the other day talking about how many thousands of truckers were behind this great movement. "Great for them, bad for us" I believe he may have been snorting something or just high off the pink organizing koolaid they were passing out! If they wanted to help the owner-operator they would actually do things in that general direction but we know what the basic plan is.. Goodbye trucker with any ownership!! If not true they would not have promoted the GREEN port truck campaign in California but then who can you trust? Ms-Classification? Yeah right, bend over independent trucker, this won't hurt a bit.....

I definitely like this discussion. Drivers need to be inform about what is going on than waiting for some meeting once a month. Things are changing constantly and this website HELPS driver with information. Information becomes knowledge, and knowledge is empowerment.
Drivers tell your fellow drivers to meet here at least once a weekend. Good job ilovdieselsmoke and fellow drivers for perpetuating the discussion. Keep the findings or latest news coming. Why wait to go to a meeting once a month, you can find and meet here to keep united. None of that Funny-Facebook selfie aggrandizes.

Teamsters are trying to get rid of the independent trucker. this has been going on for years at the port. they held a couple meeting which a handful of drivers attended. after that teamsters claim they speak for us.go figure. they dont speak for me.the teamsters have a couple trained monkeys who say we dont want to be independent truckers any longer. where so they get this crap from?

Teamsters are NOT trying to get rid of O/O unless you allow it. Why don't you this bring up in the next meeting and see if they can give you an answer? I, for one would not allow teamsters in any meeting or have any cooperation w/ them. They are who (in my opinion) cause a lot of the frustrations that drivers face today; Drivers are not organized. If you find yourself as an Independent Contractor, you should see yourself as a businessman. Everything you do should apply as doing business. Stop thinking as a truck(er) and take a proactive stand. Ask yourself, what would other businessmen do in a situation like this. Start by asking your plumber, general contractor, etc. C'mon men, THINK!

first. we asked many questions. we got no answers to any of our questions. in fact they told us teamsters could not help because we owned trucks. now look at what they did in the west with the california clean port truck program . now look what they are doing trying to change laws with independent trucker misclassification. yes they do want to bury the owner.operator. now we do not want anythig else to do with them or their crap.
