Really, drivers receiving texts messages. We can't talk on the phone at the ports, but can receive text msgs.
Example: SIMILAR TO FTBT ALREADY EXISTING TEXT NOTIFICATION, THE PORT OF VIRGINIA HAS INSTITUTED A SIMILAR SERVICE, FREE OF CHARGE. PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS WILL GET REAL TIME ALERTS DIRECTLY TO THEIR PHONES IN THE FORM OF TEXT MESSAGES FROM OUR FRIENDS AT VIT. (INSTRUCTIONS TO REGISTER ARE IN THE PIC BELOW). I SIGNED UP, SO SHOULD YOU!
Note: We are going to have a new appointment system, but it will be enforce.
(Ruddy also announced that the enforcement of an appointment system for truckers that had been set to take effect Monday at Norfolk International Terminals has been pushed back to Aug. 18).

Defaulting on a more than $1 billion port operations contract is an option for the financially troubled Portsmouth facility, the state's top transportation official said Friday. Transportation Secretary Aubrey Layne said recent changes to the Virginia Port Authority board may not be enough to turn around the troubled port. In April, Gov. Terry McAuliffe replaced five members of the board. During a meeting with the Daily Press editorial board, Layne floated the idea of defaulting on a 20-year, approximately $1.16 billion contract with APM Terminals' Portsmouth facility, which Virginia International Terminals operates.' -- Note: And that's on a large scale of business decision making, trying to mitigate loses.
Think drivers, why would you want to go to the ports when the average time is over two hours. Do the math. It's cheaper to lose the dray then lose the time. Think!
