Really, drivers receiving texts messages. We can't talk on the phone at the ports, but can receive text msgs. Note: We are going to have a new appointment system, but it will be enforce. (Ruddy also announced that the enforcement of an appointment system for truckers that had been set to take effect Monday at Norfolk International Terminals has been pushed back to Aug. 18). A Puppet(O/O) and puppeteers(VIT) is what happening at FTBT, don't be fool!
Think drivers, why would you want to go to the ports when the average time is over two hours. Do the math, don't wait for the text. It's cheaper to lose the dray then to lose the time. Think!

Profitability? That's a nasty word in port trucking. Please don't repeat this in front of your dispatcher or be prepared to face instant disciplinary action such as unruly driver mark attached to your DAC report! Text messaging is a great idea. Only we should be able to send those text messages to Virginia Marine Terminal management every time they waste our valuable time during the day. I just don't know if the cell towers could handle such an overload of their system?

It was part of the initial interview. And as for the DAC, I don't think they want that backfiring. But I do strongly agree with the last line, PORTRODEO, send the text that matters directly to Virginia Marine Terminal management. Why are you afraid, drivers? Some (FTBT) are being caught by the idea that they are making a difference. Don't be fool by the illusion. You will see and hear this at their next meet. Wow! Drivers - THINK!

i feel our driver representatives have fallen in the virginia port trap. these folk down at the docks like entertaining guest. they have the budget and time for that. we don't, so this could go on for months before everyone finally loses interest. that's what they are banking on. its part of the new port plan. watch and we will see.

We went threw all these motions several years back. I attended meetings at port with other drivers as a group. we were made to feel as though the issues we informed them about were of great concern. Yeah right, they have as much respect for a committee of truckers as water bugs crawling around the piers. I'm afraid this this effort will be no more then a repeat performance in Virginia again. I wish you guys who are the leaders of this new group luck but I see only stall tactics like in the past. I agree with the driver above. They will drag this out until the rest of the group drifts away. History always seems to repeat itself. Management understands one thing, one thing only. When it suddenly cost them it instantly becomes an important problem. What they need is a good swift kick in their ass. Figure a way to cost them money without killing off the entire driver group and use that to get their attention. Its the only way. The union dockworkers didn't get their good pay or union contracts without without kicking some butt. They are both hated and respected but they make the d**n money!

FUSION, I`m not the brightest driver, maybe you can clear things up for me?? One post you seem to be touting the need for change and seem to support groups like FTBT, and the next it seems like you want no parts of them. Since you seem to be the most frequent poster of late, would it be possible for you to take a little time and start a new thread detailing your position, hopes and beliefs for the future of port trucking?? Please remember, most of us are drivers and other work-a-day folks so try to use common language instead of the typical doublespeak we get from the fatcats. Again we are interested in YOUR plan and YOUR thoughts. Please tell us where YOU stand.

OOmad, you are one of the brightest to ask, but maybe you haven't been paying attention. Doublespeak, yeah right. Okay, why would you so be interested in a plan, stand or thoughts. A plan I don't have to share because drivers (as yourself) will NOT follow one. Secondly, the stand and thoughts are obvious as you so noted from past reads. And as for myself, it is never about one person. We (as drivers) are in this mess ALL together. The recent changes is an indication of where we are all heading. Text messages and appointments, please. As I stated earlier, why would you want to go to the ports when the average time is over two hours. Do the math, don't wait for the text. It's cheaper to lose the dray then to lose the time. Or are you in need of more group therapy with guest visits from VIT. A plan, well lets see where you are going with this. I know for a fact that the way FTBT is going about this is only a matter of time...
