Rep. Cummings Letter to Federal Maritime Commission
By Elijah E. Cummings
WASHINGTON, Oct. 28 -- Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md. (7th CD), issued the following news release:
Today, Congressman Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation, sent the following letter to the Federal Maritime Commission:
Dear Commissioners Dye, Creel, and Brennan:
I write to you today to express my support for the recent actions of the Commission in allowing the implementation of the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach Cooperative Working Agreement. The Agreement will reduce truck emissions by a significant percentage within the next few years.
While the Commission's action authorizing the implementation of the Southern California plan has allowed the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to begin roll out of their Clean Trucks Program, the Commission's determination to continue to exert jurisdiction over the implementation of the agreement should provide necessary oversight to ensure that the actions taken by the Ports do not violate the prohibited actions of the Shipping Act of 1984.
Further, while this Working Agreement is drastically different from carrier price fixing agreements, or carrier or marine terminal cooperative working agreements, I contend that it is important as we move forward to try to pro-actively help address growth issues in an accountable, environmentally safe and secure fashion. I ask that you keep my staff informed as you continue your oversight work.
Thank you for your time and consideration of these comments.

Typical politician from Maryland. Pats the FMC on the head, congratulates them for being a watch dog for the shipping act, tells them they are great for allowing this plan to continue. Heck, I don't know who he is for or against. Here is another example of one of his futuristic letters: Dear Chinese Communist Party Officials, Thanks so much for the invasion of America. It showed me something. You handled the taking over of America quite well. Little bloodshed, no historic buildings damaged, infrastructure remains in tact. I would also like to thank you for all the new language programs started in our schools, after all we now need to learn Mandarin as fast as possible. Could you also please consider allowing me to continue in my current job. I love politics, even if half of our Congress is now in your jails. I promise not to disrupt or say anything bad about China. I love your rubber hoses, and garden figures. You guys are a snap my fingers, twist and swirl to me. China Rocks!!!! Ok , now you can see who Mr. Elijah E. Cummings is, can be, and will change to, right before your very eyes.
