Maersk to Raise Rates from North America

Service improvements cited for rate increase to Middle East, India
Maersk Line will raise freight rates in the trade from North America to the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent.
The carrier said recent service improvements on the route, including deployment of an additional vessel and call at Houston on the MECL2 Service as well as inclusion of Colombo on the MECL1 Service, necessitated the rate restoration.
"Because of these investments, we have the broadest coverage, the fastest transits in key trade lanes, and the most direct service in the market, demonstrating our commitment to the North America-Middle East-Indian Subcontinent trade at a time when other carriers are either curtailing their coverage, reducing their service options, or altogether exiting the trade," the company said.
The proposed increases for dry containers, to be implemented in two stages, will take effect May 1 and August 15.
Eastbound from the East Coast of North America :
- Effective May 1, $240 per 20-foot; $300 per 40-foot or high cube and $340 per 45-foot container.
- Effective Aug. 15, $120 per 20-foot; $150 per 40-foot or high cube and $170 per 45-foot container.
Eastbound from the Gulf Coast of North America :
- Effective May 1, $315 per 20-foot; $390 per 40-foot or high cube and $440 per 45-foot container.
- Effective Aug. 15, $160 per 20-foot; $195 per 40-foot or high cube and $220 per 45-foot container.
