Hello Mr. Pete, my company just starting deducting bobtail insurance out of our checks. I already have bobtail and they have my certificate for $1,ooo,ooo coverage for port. What's the deal? How can they force owner/operators to buy their company insurance if you have your own?
BTW - I pay $57.00 per month, their insurance is $40.00 per week deducted from pay.

OK twohorsepower, I'll answer this one for Pete. According to federal "truth-n-leasing" regulations owner/operator-lease/operators cannot be forced to purchase products or any insurance from the motor carrier as so long as they can show a policy of their own meeting or exceeding the carrier requirements. In other words it's against federal law to force you to buy anything from the trucking company unless you make that choice. |

Hey hammerdown85, I love my truck too..
It's an older 1986 Western Star conv. but NO smoke belching unsafe piece of junk as this green coalition would have the legislators believe. Intermodal truckers need protection from the many unscrupulous motor carriers, shippers, customers, & ports that take advantage of hard working Americans. If fighting them wasn't already bad enough, now we need protection from idiots who want to take away our right to truck ownership. The association can only reach the next level with more trucker support. We will be posting a new address soon that donations can be sent directly to IODA for this reason. |
