Waiting time plus rates in Jacksonville really sucks right now. I don't know how much longer it'll be before I park my truck again. I did another job for a few months but got back into this again thinking the work would pickup at the port the final part of this year. I listened to a trucking company I used to pull for saying work was really coming back strong. What a mistake that was.

I had a chance a month ago to haul flatbed loads to Florida from out of Savannah, GA. The money sounded good but included bringing back empty containers from Miami so I turned it down. Glad I did now after hearing all the horror stories associated with the port of Miami. It has been fifteen years since I hauled steady down to Miami. I can only imagine what it looks like today. By the time I unloaded the flat early somewhere in South Florida I figured that would put me in Miami after lunch so I would never get out of the port before rush hour traffic started headed back North on I-95. The thing about Miami I remember is the traffic is incredible most any time of the day but during the "rush hours" it's one big parking lot for forty miles or more. If there is an accident you can be tied up for more hours. No thanks you guys can have that down there unless the loads start paying over two thou$and dollar$ a trip I may reconsider.

Anybody ever heard of a company doing containers out of Jacksonville called "Quaker"? They're advertising on Craigslist for owner operators. Please let me know. Thanks

I was leased to Quaker for about a Month back in the Summer. They all talk the same talk as the rest of the Company's out there about having the best rates in the business with steady work and in the end it is all the same. They will give you 100% of the surcharge but after they take their cut off the top you will still only get 87 CPM. But theyt try hard to justify that by telling you that with the FSC you are still at 1$ per mile. Besides if you like waiting for Hell to freeze over you will just love TRAPAC where the majority of their Container freight comes from.

Welcome guys to the forum, I believe Quaker is the sister company of Pioneer who hauls containers. Wildman may know this company. Yeah most OTR truckers pulling containers are averaging .80 to .95 cents practical miles which your just making payments to the Pilot Fuel stop for the privilege of driving down the road. It's really sad to see the majority killing their truck and them self while most agencies makes off with any profit. I pull only local or a few short haul if it pays well. I don't pull overweight unless the load pays a premium which the customers don't want to get off of. Paper, chickens, tile, etc., are best to stay away from.
