Hapag-Lloyd, NYK Line and OOCL joint service to call starting in December
The Indamex service, a vessel-sharing agreement between Hapag-Lloyd, NYK Line and OOCL that connects the Indian sub-continent and Eastern Mediterranean with the U.S. East Coast will add a new call at Savannah beginning in December, the Georgia Ports Authority announced Monday at its board meeting.
At the same meeting, GPA Chief Operating Officer Curtis J. Foltz, who will become the authority’s next executive director on Jan. 1, said container throughput rose to more than 234,000 20-foot containers in October, up 1.7 percent from the same month last year.
Container tonnage increased by 12.3 percent compared to the previous year and vessel calls to all terminals increased by 15.1 percent.
The port rotation of the Indamex service is currently as follows: Nhava Sheva, Mundra, New York, Norfolk, Charleston, Jedda, Karachi and back to Nhava Sheva.
The GPA said that with the addition of the Indamex, Savannah now provides service to all major Indian ports – Nhava Sheva, Mundra and Chennai – and will better fill India’s growing demand for export commodities such as fabrics, cotton, paper, paperboard and wood pulp.
