Seattle port trucks updated

In the past three months, 59 truck owners working the Port of Seattle have turned in their older polluting diesel trucks for a $5,000 scrap credit.
About 85 percent of the trucks have been or are being replaced with a newer truck, according to Kathy Boucher, Cascade Sierra Solutions branch manager in Seattle. Older trucks create as much as 100 times more air pollution than modern trucks. As of Dec. 31, 2010, no pre-1994 engine trucks will be allowed access to the port. The Seaport Truck Scrappage and Retrofits for Air in Puget Sound (ScRAPS) program offers an incentive to remove pre-1994 engine trucks from service early and replace them with late-model trucks. ScRAPS is administered by the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency and receives funding through the Washington Department of Ecology, the Port of Seattle, the City of Tacoma, and the PSCAA. Cascade Sierra Solutions is coordinating the truck scrapping from its Green Truck Center in Seattle. The ScRAPS program was created in support of the Northwest Ports Clean Air Strategy for the region. Its a bunch of crock! older trucks DON'T pollute as much as newer trucks. Older and newer trucks work the exact same way. Its only how you MAINTAIN your equipment that makes it appear dirtier than a new one. A truck is a truck is a truck. keep your engine well maintained and it will pull a long long long time. Port and harbor drivers need to just go work somewhere else if they are being forced out by all the crappy phony regs by idiots who know nothing about mechanics or engineering. I would NEVER be forced to buy a newer truck just because some not a very nice person sitting in an office 3k miles away says it's needed. Why the hell would I want to purchase a new truck I cant afford on the already LOUSY rates the ports and harbors give? ONLY a $5k CREDIT? for a 30k truck? come on truckers... Use the ole noodle it does NOT MAKE SENSE! If you applied for a TWIC and never actually READ WHOM it is REALLY FOR, and now you go and buy a new truck well then more power to ya...Too many IDIOT office jocks sitting around making rules for everyone else (its called socialism) and everyone complains yet does NOTHING...It is the job of the CHP to enforce 'real' polluting trucks. NOT the ports and harbor UNION CREEPS. This crap was brought on because the mexican drivers and thier JUNK with bald tires, and BLACK belching smoke trucks RUINED it for EVERYONE...Has ANYONE done ANYTHING about the local REFINERIES that produce SMELLY STINKING foul odor gases that float into the city of long beach CA that one can smell for MILES? NOOOOOO! Yet an American trucker is FORCED out of the business unless he buys a NEW truck. Over 2 million port and harbor drivers in this country and they all say OH WELL WE GOTTA DO IT THE GOVERNMENT SAYS SO. HINT: Shut the harbors and ports DOWN! DOWN! DOWN! STOP taking the constant never ending always added new rules. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY LETS DO IT!!!!
