What about this company Evans Delivery? I am getting very mixed opinions on these people. My husband was looking to move his truck over to them because they have some dedicated drop&hook accounts that we can run at night but I hear several drivers say that they are only averaging $.80 per mile. Anyone know for sure? Speaking to their agents they make it all sound like fantastic paying freight but that's always the case with each one we call.

I run for one of the many companies Evans owns, and have been keeping pretty busy with them for almost a year now. I have been leased to 5 different companies over the past 9 years and the rates every where are just going down. If it were not for fuel surcharge, we would go broke running for anyone..... The money may not be the best, but they have gone above and beyond when I have needed help when my son was sick. I even won a computer about 2 months after I started there. They have health insurance I got for my family too. So some times you have to look at the big picture. Hope you and your husband find the right place to put your truck.

Can not understand how someone is happy with 86-87 per mile. This is what is wrong. Too many operators--Thank the Lord I got a job. A job you are working for free? That does not come close to paying operating expense. This clown retired military or something and lives in a truck Or does he/she have a contact or source getting free fuel?

Hey Cheezburger, I'm not knocking a man for doing what you gotta do but .60 per mile for fuel is one of several fixed cost in trucking so that leaves approximately .35 cents left at those figures quoted to pay the truck along with yourself something too. That just doesn't work out for anyone else but the agent making commission and the customer getting a great deal. I know who you are talking about because we trip leased a few loads from Evans last year which didn't pay what they claimed it would because the moves worked out exactly what you said here. I couldn't move anymore boxes for that money even with my truck paid off unless someone gave me free diesel with the loads. I move boxes out of the Savannah port at $1.40 per mile or my tractor sits parked at the house. I usually average pulling about three trips a week and do a little local work at $50 bucks a pop. Funny thing is most will pay to move the freight if they know your serious about standing your ground. At $1.40 I'm hauling .20 cents under what we all should be making now.

i never said i was happy with the money but i will bet all Ive got there is no pulling containers out of Savannah doing much better without dealing with the screwed up port, like i said i could do better if i went into the port,as the fuel cost my truck gets 7mpg divided into 285 a gal that = 40 cents per mile so if you are spending 60cpm maybe there is something wrong on your end.i stay because if i need extra money or help they are there for me.if you don't do your job that may be different.this site is to help each other but i don't see anyone posting good MONEY

I drive for a union LTL freight company. Driver mileage pay is forty-nine cents per mile, twenty seven dollars per hour waiting, standing by, breakdown, whatever, not counting pension, health insurance, & the rest of the beanies. I feel for you guys having to put up with the enormous BS at the ports. I don't know what it would take to unionize this group whereby you could each enjoy a fair negotiated contract between all parties but that certainly seems like the only answer to your situation. There has to be a basic rate structure agreement setup that no one can undercut. We don't have any owner-operator truckers that belong to my local but I know they do elsewhere. I don't see why this same thing can't be accomplished at the seaports for you. BTW--I guess I am an owner-operator at heart in the sense that I do own a project truck which sits tucked away in the garage at my house. Unlike you guys I pay for this one strictly from my union driving job without all the operating expenses you have. It's a 1971 little window Pete which I picked up seventeen years ago to renovate. The Peterbuilt is currently ninety percent complete. Some people do old cars I enjoy old trucks. Certainly you can understand that. Maybe I'll run this old Pete a little after I retire next year even pull a container or two if someone figures a way by then to make your port freight pay.

WOW, thanks very much everyone. I think my husband and I will stay away from this company for now. The pay doesn't really sound so good. We are leasing to another motor carrier next week so I'll post the results on the new company soon.

This is for wildman I don't like being called a CLOWN when i have 34yrs as a owner-op, i support a wife and three kids and i don't see anyone posting a better alternative to all of our problems so how about showing a little respect unless you can show a better life. in other words speak up or. need i say any more.

I've worked with Evans delivery in the past. I liked the work and the people in the office. I just can't see ever running for those rates ever again. I am leased to CSX in Jacksonville and do really well with them. If you can get ahold of their rate sheet, that's what we should be making, avg .95 cpm line haul and 28.5% fuel surcharge over 100 miles. I wouldn't try leasing onto them in Savannah- pretty slow there. Rail freightpays better in general

i worked for evans delivery in tidewater , va area. this jerk is a shyster. beware of this slick agents operation. they have a lease purchase that'll make you a slave to their company.junk trucks, cheap rates, crooks running the agency.you'll be a lucky to collect anything that's owed once you figure out they are screwing the flock.

Thanks for info driver. I was kicking around the idea of a company truck lease-purchase agreement but this outfit is definitely not for me.

be careful what you say about that asshat in Tidewater , he will threaten you with a law suit for talking about him. Word got out that he wants to sue a driver for stating the true facts about how he and several other drivers were screwed while doing one of those lease purchase deals. None of them are there anymore, hmmm, wonder why

I can't speak for other drivers but, I worked at Evans in Chesapeake 2 times and never will again. The agent aksed me if I wanted to do a lease purchase the second time and I agreed. I told him form the start that I was there to work and if he screwed me that it would come back on him. He put me in a truck that immediately started having problems. Another friend of mine started a few days later and his truck had numerous problems . The agent made the two of us pay to repair the trucks. He took the $$ out our settlements and when He quit and then me two weeks later , the agent kept the escrow for both trucks and kept the final settlements also

Well I can tell you that you are wrong about Evans. My husband has been with them for 9 years and would not think about going anywhere else. When you say 82 cents you are not adding the fuel and they have never charged a driver for a run flat tire. SO add up how many tires you have ran flat and see what you are making a mile. Also overweight pay, hazmat pay and a great place to work. So for the one looking elsewhere, don't let the door bump you in the butt on the way out. They keep you very busy. If they are so bad why do they have almost a 100 trucks just in Savannah alone?

Running on flat tires? That's the whole point of a pre-trip inspection & walk around every few hours. Brand new shipping line recaps are $65.00. If you feel your going to run them flat carry a spare along with an air hose. As for .82 cents that's certainly a pathetic little bit of money to offer an owner driver. I hope they pay all your fuel for the entire trip if that's the best Evan's Delivery can pay on mileage for your husbands truck. The amount of money your Savannah agent is making off you he/she should also make your house payment including paying for your household utility bills each month. After all they truly owe you (the independent trucker) for their extravagant lifestyle you have provided them with while breaking your back.
BTW- I worked for this outfit for a month realizing there was no container freight in their system that paid worth a d**n. I am in business to make money not haul their customers boxes around just to keep my truck busy.
