Charleston Area’s Transportation Worker Identification Credential September 4, 2008
Local port workers and truck drivers who need a new federal ID badge by December 1 now must visit a new center in North Charleston.
The Charleston area’s Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) Enrollment Center moved two weeks ago from its previous location on Goer Drive to a new office at 3236 Landmark Drive, Suite 114, North Charleston, SC 29418.
The U.S. Coast Guard announced last month a deadline of December 1, 2008 for the thousands of workers who need unescorted access to the Port of Charleston to get a TWIC.
“With only about three months before the TWIC deadline, time is running out to enroll,” said Lindy Rinaldi, the S.C. State Ports Authority’s Chief of Port Police. “Anyone who needs access to port facilities, including truckers, must have a TWIC on December 1 to continue working on the port.”
According to the latest TWIC Dashboard report issued by the Coast Guard, about 4,600 Charleston workers, including 1,000 truck drivers, have enrolled.
