I am a Texas trucker moving back to virginia next year. I was wondering if anybody know's where some good paying cdl jobs are. I have an 98 pete 18 speed 550 cat and would like to pull containers if at all possible. If anybody has any information could you please let me know. I have done the otr thing, done bully dumps here in texas along with hauling oilfield pipe on flat bed/lowboy etc. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.

TT79 , you will be lucky to find any companies that pay much if over $1.00 per mile. The Christmas rush is over and now most companies will be slowing down to a crawl when it comes to volume of freight. My reccommendation is take your time and ask the drivers , not these clowns who call them selves agents , how they feel about they way they are treated and the actuall money they take home.

welcome to virginia, the communist state. stick with short haul if you can. the money is not in hauling any distance. rates are in toilet for containers but maybe next year with all the new csa regs. that will change when they are forced to find better qualified drivers.

sorry texas-i don't move containers anymore out of hampton roads. way to cheap and to much stealing from the owner driver. i play with drop deck now. much better deal. good luck with finding someone honest or that pays enough to stay in business moving steel boxes. i don't mean just paycheck to pay check either. i mean being able to operate like a real business. the only way i see to make it hauling those boxes is to buy stolen fuel from one of the local underground vendors. the port shuffle was a learning experience for sure.

hey dude. u musta gotten the basic tour of the tidewater motor carrier welcoming committee. if everyone quit pullin them for a few weeks the rates would go outa site. then maybe it would be considered a decent living!!!

So I take it that it's not even worth it... Until something changes with this sick system. NO not worth the time hand. I talked to a driver yesterday that leases to SeaLanes. $.88 per mile plus FSC making the load pay to truck @ $1.14 and that's dispatcher dream miles not actual miles to customer and back.... I pull a few local(not in Virginia)but same system, a little less traffic than you guys have. I can make $450.00/$500.00 on a decent day burning $120.00/$140.00 in fuel. It's not setting the world on fire but a whole lot better(no miles/minimum of fuel) than truckers like the poor SeaLanes driver.

with fuel cost like they are u got to be desperate or maybe plain suicidal to do road work for any less than $1.50 per mile. i tried those runs for the company i am leased with but after a few weeks turned to the city. been doing that haul for two years now. sometimes they have a good paying short run that is above average but i stick with city work the rest of the time.
