I will join the site as soon as I see more trucker trying to make a change n the VA. Ports. Need the support from others. I don't like waisting my time. Further more the company I lease to have nothing to do with my actions outside the truck. They don't care as long as freight is being pulled. Until drivers are ready to stand up and say enough is enough and shut it down then its a losing battle. Who cares if the port extended strike. That have nothing to do wit drivers. I check in south zone lanes where open and still sat 2 1/2 hour's before I got my box. THIS WILL CONTINUE UNLESS WE UNITE TOGETHER

so why don't we start plan to have a real driver meeting in norfolk or somewhere in hampton roads early spring for interested va drivers? that's a trucker meeting,,not a trucking company meeting.they have meetings. we don't. we need a fresh start in norfolk for truckers. pass it around the port to friends. it doesn't have to take place in norfolk if someone has a better location or suggestion. everyone talk to three driver friends and get back. start the conversation slowly now for a later date.

Joining this forum will only take a few minutes of your time,it doesn`t cost anything, and it won`t hurt.If you are going to read and post replies you might as well join.Maybe we can use this site to institute change, but it will need members first.Somewhere along the line we have to stop pulling in a hundred different directions. My situation is different from most.I`ve been pulling containers off/on since 1986.Tried leasing to a big multi-port company in late 2010.Only stayed 6 weeks.I don`t know how you guys put up with that B/S. Since then I`ve groomed my own customer base(not big enough, yet) and work fairly steady most of the year. Also use a couple of brokers, but sparingly.Rarely do I pull loads out of the ports.I`m checking this site myself regularly so I can support those of you that have trucks leased on around Norfolk.Alot of your issues don`t affect me directly, but I will be at any meeting supporting whatever cause helps us the most, even if it doesn`t benefit me.Still waiting for viable leadership. You local guys will lose first. They will push the O/O out, then the pay will begin to drop for you company drivers.

During the last 25 years the Port workers have used trucks to get what they want(More money-Benefits). As technology changes and the improvement of Port operations the ILA and O/O have both felt a pinch in there wallets. ILA and o/o have seen a decrease in available work. Many loads are going onto the railroad. O/O face a harsh reality that there is way to many trucks at port and that causes a decrease in rates. To many drivers choose to work for fuel instead of saying no to cheep freight. ACCORDING TO THE MAGAZINE TRANSPORT TOPICS( WHICH IS A INDUSTRY PUBLICATIONS SENT OUT WEEKLY) THE AVERAGE SALARY OF A LONG SHOREMAN IS $128,000 PER YEAR.(THIS INCLUDES WAGES, BENEFITS AND CONTAINER ROYALTIES). with this information at hand, we need to do what ever is necessary to continue to work regardless of ILA Strike. Cross lines if need be. O/O should be making close to $178,000 per year in order to walk out and help long shoreman. [glow=red,2,300]ITS DOLLARS AND CENTS[/glow] . Good luck to all that are in business and please put you Business cap on, the ILA and The Port of Virginia will always keep there Business hat on.

Seems like there where some drivers in the port today talking abt the disadvantage we're facing with the industry. All we need to do is have a meeting I really don't care how many drivers attend. We Have to start somewhere. I'm available any evening or weekend as long it's concern issues we facing on a daily bases

well i wanted to see a big strike. thin the pack so to speak. we need things to get worse before getting better. still to many low ball companies and their drivers willing to work for pennies. less is better in this business. 99% couldn't go one week without work so a good 20 day strike would have cleaned some more of the sidewalk vendors out.

$.40 / $.50 above fuel cost per mile is the norm. i can drive a company truck for more money then that amount. no i don't pull for even close to that but i could fill a page up with a list of drivers who do. i cant believe how many drivers call them self an owner-operator but cannot figure cost. any cost, even diesel cost per mile. that is probably because most don't keep any records. get serious drivers. your right , the longshoremen have a great job while we are treated like port monkeys. when will this stop? well that is up to us or when they run out of monkeys. that might be a sooner fix for the general population if prices continue to go up on trucking cost.

Respect to all, idiots included. First of all its one port, consisting of the same kinds of labor intensive environments, same safety hazards, and we all share in the responsibility Mar sec security TWIC, blah, blah , blah. Why the F_CK would you want or accept substandard representation for the part you play in these same global operations. No disrespect but is anyone here substandard. I drive very hard in the ports of NY/NJ to no avail. I deal with corruption and s#*t most of you dream about. I admire what the I.L.A has but despise the fact that they act as if its not for truckers. Where could they be without us. I am done taking their s#*t, this is real life oppression while these jerks live off two and three salaries. Their growth shrinks our existence, and makes our families to suffer. I can't believe some of what I'm hearing, grow a set. Their blind allegiance to each other and great salaries match with lifetime positions. The I.L.A is aligned with every major organization lobbying to hurt truckers. AFL-CIO, LUINA, IBT, ILWU, ILA, ATA and every shipping organization that does not want to put the profits in our hands. Yeah they are harmless and blameless. In 6 years from 20 to 35 an hour regular time. Lol
