Found on Porttrucker.com: Nothing has changed in the past twenty-five years anywhere.. New Orleans independent truckers went on strike back ten plus years ago on similar issues. This will not change until everyone agrees to take action together along the Gulf and the Atlantic states all at once and be prepared to continue or repeat that action over a period of several weeks if necessary.. If the ports think drivers are capable of a sustained action that will cost them "hundreds of millions of dollars" they will be more interested in reaching out to solve the issues that are costing truckers their livelihood. Right now industry management could care less about any of you although a couple of small driver groups believe they somehow have a relationship with an open door policy at their particular port.. Good luck with that snow job.. The only thing this ocean industry understands is when they get hit in their own pocketbook. Your bankruptcy doesn't concern them!
In appose to: Improving the livelihood of professional drivers. From whom bring you "bad mismanagement" and "powerful and indestructible machine". Go Figure. They still don't get it. Haven't gone away. Still LMOA! HA! HA! HA!

Sound like the powerful and indestructible machine amassing thugs and threating other drivers to be with them...

It's good to know that things ARE happening behind the scene other than social media circus clowns with their selfies and taking credit for what management is propose to do anyway. The anticipation is mounting when the lil Rascals are exposed.

Blue Max, perhaps you can develop your own perfect organization since you think you can do a better job than the group out here now. I'm sure with your wealth of knowledge and great leadership abilities you will get this industry the respect we deserve. You have provided such wonderful suggestions and constructive criticism... thanks for all that you have done and will do! your right fusion, nothing can be accomplished without a serious action in the east. face book likes are no action. the port thinks we are a joke here in virginia. i expect next they may form a golf port trucker team to play with management. of course management will win because the face book gang who claim to represent our concerns cant find their d**n balls!

Watch it, Blue Max this sounds like a member or a fan of an 'Powerful and Indestructible machine'. They have all the respect they are going to get from VPA / VIT management, some MC and vendors. Just follow their progress. The silent major can't even say what is on their mind w/o divisive comebacks whether here or any other sites. Let them have their day and soon this will implode on them. So far action is taking place behind the scenes of so-call social media. Respect - Ha!

LA-LB turn times improving, but truckers want even better | JOC.com
A statement that is still questioned even with today’s improvements. Now with that said, remember that it is still your time that is valuable. This being a management problem all alone we as drivers must continue to hold VPA / VIT accountable for any delays past, present and future. We should all be in and out in less than twenty minutes, period. No: to sitting along management, siding with motor carriers or a notion that they (management) are in our best interest, so do as they said.
A good example of this is look at the overall process that has taken place in the last few years. One: inbound control of the main gate influx. Second: opening doors for more than ten seconds to look inside. Third: re-inspection of chassis more than once in more than one place when they are input into the same system. Just a few of the observations that can be tweak and remember: 'in and out in less than twenty minutes'. And you can also add to this list without interpretation or misrepresentation.
No one person or group should do either for their own interest. We are ALL trying to make a living and time is money to the rest of us. Some drivers have a second income and some have a personal agenda. Most of the silent majority has no time for foolishness in with an organization or to create one.

Take Note Drivers: Found this to be interesting, when you have a misrepresentation from some group that support motor carriers or are proxies for POV management, think what they are saying to you.
Example: Independent Contractor Misclassification is a Large and Growing Problem - June 8, 2015
In (In)dependent Contractor Misclassification, Françoise Carré, Research Director for the Center for Social Policy at the University of Massachusetts, Boston, conducts a thorough analysis of trends in independent contractor misclassification throughout the labor market. Misclassification, which occurs when a worker who should be considered a direct employee of a business is treated as a self-employed contractor, constitutes a business model for unscrupulous employers who use it to avoid employment-related obligations and save on labor and administrative costs.
“Misclassification is one way in which employers deprive workers of the ability to bargain over wages and working conditions,” said Carré. “It is a troubling and understudied trend and seems to be on the rise. The growth of the ‘sharing economy,’ which mostly treats on-demand workers as self-employed, further highlights the need for clarity on employee status.”
Employers who misclassify avoid paying payroll taxes and workers’ compensation insurance, and are not responsible for providing health insurance and other workplace benefits. They are able to bypass requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, which forbids employers to knowingly hire undocumented immigrants. Workers, meanwhile, are ineligible for workers’ comp, overtime, and unemployment insurance—unless they successfully challenge their status with their state unemployment insurance agencies. They must pay the full FICA tax and purchase their own health insurance. Misclassification undermines worker bargaining power and leaves workers more vulnerable to wage theft.
Federal and state unemployment insurance, worker compensation, and disability insurance systems are adversely affected, and federal and state governments lose out on revenue from income taxes. Meanwhile, employers who play by the rules are disadvantaged by higher labor and administration costs relative to employers who misclassify.
Misclassification is not easily documented, but numerous state-level studies indicate that 10 to 20 percent of employers misclassify at least one worker. It is most common in industries where it is most profitable (such as construction, where workers’ compensation insurance premiums are high), and in industries with scattered worksites where work is performed in isolation.
Misclassified workers can be found throughout the economy, working for small companies to publicly traded multinational corporations. For example, many Atlanta stagehands have likely been misclassified as independent contractors. Meanwhile, despite maintaining strict control over their drivers’ working conditions, FedEx classifies many of its drivers as independent contractors.
Carré highlights construction, trucking, housecleaning, in-home care, stagecraft, and some new “sharing economy” companies as industries where misclassification is particularly common. She suggests a number of policies to address misclassification, including stepped-up enforcement, higher fines, information campaigns, and stronger collective bargaining.
This paper is part of EPI’s Raising America’s Pay project, a multiyear research and public education initiative to make wage growth an urgent national policy priority. Raising America’s Pay seeks to explain wage and benefit patterns—and the role of labor market policies and practices in suppressing pay—and identify policies that will generate broad-based wage growth.

Yes, agree but if you let them. To many big Cos are getting away with government reg while decimating the O/O concepts. Soon we all will be driving around with elogs & speed limiters. And of course, more to come like cameras that sees everything your doing. Some drivers have gravitated to elogs and some are finding the difficulty with it. Some drivers allow their companies to dictate to them how to make their money. Also, you have drivers that allow port management to influence small make-up groups to follow their directives with empty promises. The only people there making money are the ones in control. Think drivers it is your equipment and you are control of how to make your money and how much. Ask for that straight bill of lading and compare what your getting over the agreement in your contract's percentage. Most drivers don't ask or know to ask. As for group therapy or drivers allowing union to win them over, beware. The O/O concept is being challenge, what are you going to do?

the teamsters union doesnt give a d**n about any truckers in virginia. they are all about membership numbers. owner, operators? we are rats in their book. i was part of a teamster formed group in norfolk years back. a guy from savannah georgia used to come up here monthly to help us with our problems. he was a driver at one time. maybe he is again. i dont know what happened to him but he was a very good egg. to bad more here are not like him. when he left everything went right back to same old garbage. that was three newly formed trucker groups ago. we seem to repeat same mistakes over and over. if i saw where we had a real direction again i would join but all i see is people who want to use the group members as a way to get out of their truck for a better job. maybe with port , ila or who knows.

Porttrucker.com: Again,, Let's thank the Teamsters union for forcing the owner-operator to scrap perfectly good trucks.. This clean port truck campaign sponsored by them is clearly their cruel attempt to make trucking so expensive that the independent trucker is forced into company owned trucks.. They project they will unionize all those once O/Op's - now company drivers after destroying their right to ownership.. I'm sure drivers are really going to be extremely happy with their underhanded tactics to place them out of business...frown emoticon
Sounds like the sugarplum they (VIT mgmt) are feeding their cronies (aka, the lil rascals). Ha! Ha! Ha!

That is some dumb a** at FTBT sounding like FBBB.
If your hauling more than 80k on city streets you now need a city permit.
Streets like Hampton Blvd! Terminal Dr.! And so on.
Big ticket!! Your permit sheets have all the contact info. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is correct: I have not looked but your route restrictions should indicate if Hamton blvd is incld....otherwise yes you would need a city permit along with your blanket permit. This is not new!! If you were on Hamption Blvd the state permit applys so he's wrong
