Kinda quite around the media circus. Is Funny-FB shut down over at the lil rascal club. What, no more selfies? They must be busy on some secret project. I hope they don't disappoint their uncle Reinhart. They love their cronies over at VIT. Free labor always works for big business.

how many members left over there anyway? i tried it out a year ago. not for me. they seemed to be a special club for a handful. i found them scared to stand up to the port. in fact they seemed to want to be boardroom pals with them. not for me drivers. i can only hope one day a more trucker friendly crowd starts another assoc here in tidewater. we need a few stand up truckers who are not afraid to mix it up. not become more virginia port authority lap dogs.

You have got to laugh on this!
For Truckers By Truckers: We expect FULL compliance with the law as displayed. No exemptions unless made clear to the drivers.
Driver: I was asked about the do not enter sign yesterday because a switcher truck was going in the csa at the do not enter sign. So is the signs just for us truckers or for everyone. Because I was told that those signs were just like if you were on the highway. So once again its us truckers that get the raw end of the deal!
For Truckers By Truckers: No one is exempt from the law UNLESS IT IS CLEARLY POSTED. Otherwise we are all held to the same standard of safety. If that switcher runs into any of our members at a DO NOT ENTER crossing, we will move into action in defense of that member.
Driver: Well, that's great. But why can't something be done about this before an accident takes place ? I see them, you see them, everybody see's them braking every law. Speeding, running stop signs, do not enter signs, going the wrong way? Running out in front of trucks. The workers and the port police. A lot of drivers are just getting tired of being treated like a dog !
For Truckers By Truckers: Well we hope that by us addressing the issue on here, we will bring awareness to the potential hazard and further action can be taken by the Port of Virginia.

Norfolk, VA – The Port of Virginia in March set its new record for the amount of rail cargo handled in a month having processed 46,600 rail containers, or 39 percent of March’s total container volume.
“Our message about the strength of our rail connections to critical Midwest markets is resonating with the market,” said John F. Reinhart, CEO and executive director of the Virginia Port Authority. “Rail volume at the port is up 15 percent and 10 percent for the calendar and fiscal year, respectively.”
In addition to the strong rail business, Virginia Inland Port (VIP) and Richmond Marine Terminal (RMT) also showed growth in March, in comparison with March 2015. Container volume at RMT grew by 58 percent and VIP realized an increase of 45 percent when compared with same period.
“Since Richmond Marine Terminal has been under our management, this is the first month that volumes there have exceeded 2,000 units,” Reinhart said. “Richmond and the inland port are showing their capabilities and potential and they will be vital as we go forward with our plans to significantly increase capacity at our primary, deep-water terminals over the next three to four years.”
March’s TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) volume was down 7 percent and resulted in a 13 percent reduction in gate moves when compared with March 2015. Reinhart said the March TEU volumes were expected.
“Last March’s strong volume was driven by inclement weather at the end of February (2015) that pushed vessel calls into March and by uncertainty on the West Coast that fueled temporary cargo growth on the East Coast,” Reinhart said. “However, March 2016 TEU and container volumes were the second highest March in the history of the port (after March 2015), so our volumes are still solid and our fiscal year results are 3.6 percent above the same period last year. Further, the service times for the motor carriers calling our terminals improved as well.
“We are forecasting modest growth for the balance of the year, so our focus will be on service, cost-control and implementing critical infrastructure improvements.” **************************** Oops! What was left out? In response to one driver's concerns: Do we have a great slow down in freight or is it just where I am? Are rates dropping to ridiculous number across the board or is it just where I am? Curious minds need to know. Can I get some feedback please?
Excerpt from the VA-Pilot: Truckers, however, saw a 13.3 percent drop in containers moved in March, year over year.
The volume of truck containers moved at the port is down nearly 1 percent for the first three months of the calendar year and flat from July through March, the first nine months of the fiscal year.
The port last year moved 64 percent of its cargo by truck, 33 percent by rail and 3 percent by barge.
“We are forecasting modest growth for the balance of the year, so our focus will be on service, cost-control and implementing critical infrastructure improvements,” Reinhart said.

Dirty little secret. While it seems that west coast & east coast are joining force on common ground of ideas and issues, where is Hampton Roads? Excerpt: The Port of Los Angeles has a dirty secret. While the Harbor Commission oversees the beautification of the waterfront, it is a facade to the conditions drivers face when using the limited restrooms available at the terminals. Sign the petition and tell the Harbor Commission to provide SAFE, CLEAN and ADEQUATE restrooms for all! [Warning: Image on petition page may be disturbing.] actionnetwork.org/…/port-of-las-dirty-little-secret/P.S. note: your p/o/p brought to you by suggestion from FT...

J O K E of the D A Y ! For Truckers By Truckers mission is provide a Platform for the Trucking industry to communicate, and resolve issues through comprehensive action. Our vision is to empower Professional drivers with the knowledge & support necessary to increase revenue and sustain their equipment. Excerpt: we are not here to speak on behalf of the Port of Virginia. That's the job of one Mr. Joe Harris jharris@portofvirginia.com . However let's look back to the original design capability of VIG/APM. Simply put, the technology that was developed was not capable of supporting large volumes of trucks. APM started with 4 to 5 shiplines use, now we have double or triple that number. The autonomous cranes can only operate at certain speed. There are approximately 22-26 total interchange lanes and only a handful of labor to cover all of them. The system is obviously not as sophisticated as that of NIT. Also, let's be honest that their are times when our fellow drivers don't help the situation by not knowing their information, such as License plate number, booking number, have to call their dispatcher... and whatever else. Hopefully that can shed a little light on your question Greg, whether you buy it or not, that's what we came up with...GROUNDHOGDAY in April. On a brighter note, the Outbound is light. Please note: while a trucking background will provide some good insight, it is more important to think of yourself as a “business owner” rather than a trucker. Business owners pay attention to sound, business fundamentals as guiding principles instead of following Facebook & likes. www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum - No likes, just facts...

I can-not pass this one up....
For Truckers By Truckers · We agree with most of your point, however we as professional drivers should begin to holding ourselves accountable. Their are many things that we can accomplish amongst each other rather than place blame on ILA/MRS.
We could do the following: 1) Sign up for FTBT FREE TEXT ALERTS to get notifications regarding this and other issues
2) Purchase a CB radio and actually turn it on.
3) Moniter and engage in this Facebook page
4) Notify us when incidents like this occur so that we can inform others.
5) Join our organization to present a united front.
By doing these few things could get us further along than placeing blame.
Idiot!
1. Informal. an utterly foolish or senseless person: #seesomethingsaysomething, you're an idiot!
2. Psychology. (no longer in technical use; considered offensive) a person of the lowest order in a former and discarded classification of mental retardation, having a mental age of less than three years old and an intelligence quotient under 25.
