Anybody know what the scoop on this Big Daddy company is? The name itself makes me have second thoughts about leasing on but do they pay well or are they another (screw the trucker) type company?

Interesting; I have found their rates higher than most... It's easy to shoot out a complaint, but You need to do a rate comparison and not just take the word of a perfect stranger...

OK give us a rate comparison. I have no idea what big daddy pays but I hear they take a percentage of the drivers FSC which leaves me to believe they are not an honorable company to be leased with. At least I'm not going to lease to anyone who feels they should deduct a portion of the extra money customers pay to offset the fuel cost. That's what it's collected for, fuel surcharge not paper work charge, office equipment charge, additional employer profit, but fuel surcharge meant to compensate the one that pays for the spike in fuel at the pump.

I looked at their lease and every other paragraph says "charge back to the driver".

How does this company justify taking any part of a drivers FSC? The FSC is in place to offset the spike in fuel for whomever has to pay the bill at the pump. It's not collected from the customer to go toward any other purpose. I have heard paperwork charges but that's a ridicules excuse.

boy this company is a real piece of work. they have got a rotten reputation where ever they are located. i know a couple drivers from new jersey who warned me to look out for them when they first set up shop in savannah. guess they were right on the money. i see where they take percentage of fsc for paperwork. i wonder how many more are doing that?

They owe my company $2,675.00 in demerge from December they refuse to pay. Unfortunatly we did not get the bill from the line until after we paid them for the trucking. They some how got the containers out of the port before the computers were updated now we have to take them to court. That was our first and last expierence with these slackers. Since I have heard associates of mine in the biz that have had similar problems in the past few months with them. Hopefully they will not be in biz too much longer. At least hang in there Big Daddy until we get our judgement against you! Except one thing the owner is probably behind her being a piece of scum himself. The owner stole a fleet owners driver in Charleston then screwed him out of his escrow. Half ass company tht shouldn't even be operating. It's amazing how many bad things I have heard about Big Daddy Drayage not just Charleston but all of thier locations. Friend of mine worked for them and told me you wouldn't believe how this guy cheats his owner operators and screws the customers Comment on Review You have chosen not to share your updates from Yahoo! Michael Gallagher the owner is a real piece of work. Guess nobody told him it is illegal to hold a customer's container for payment when his own accounting department has no clue on how to bill a customer. I have known several employees and customers(myself a formal customer) that have worked for/with them and none have anything good to say. Stay far away from this company there are too many decent, knowledgeable law abiding drayage carriers in the same markets that this company services that will do a good job for you. Must be the driver's don't know any better. Spoke with a buddy that left there after a couple of weeks and he said they took 4 % off the top of what fuel surcharge percentage they billed the customer then paid the driver that discounted percentage on ONLY what the driver's portion of the linehaul was not the gross amount of the linehaul billed to the customer. So they got him twice 4% off the top then got him again by pocketing the difference of the surcharge between his pay and what they billed on top of that. If he couldn't pull his box in or out of the port he would loose more as it brings down his part of the move. That' a great deal!

That's always been problem here in savannah. ATC does very same thing. They over hire to many d**n trucks for the work. It's same with city drays. They make sure if there are ten loads there is a truck standing by for every one to move if. Why do they care if drivers sit looking at each other when slow. They make their money no matter if you only got two local trips for the day. This big daddy drayage sounds like a revolving door. They must have a 175% turnover rate to hear drivers talk on radio. We should make a rating on here assigning them all numbers from worst to top of list. Top of the list can be company that keeps majority of truckers more than three months before they quit.

If he couldn't pull his box in or out of the port he would loose more as it brings down his part of the move. That' a great deal! I work in jersey for these "nice people" they do have a spread on the fuel surcharge I think it's 3% and yes they pay you the fuel surcharge based on your rate not theirs so it ends up being more than 3%. Ok a 1000 load lets just say pays the driver 700 or 70% which is standard in this drayage bs. they charge 29% or 290 then give you 26% or 182 so that's 108 dollars just on fuel surcharge for every thousand. Their rates are not the best and they used to take out 5% for workmans compensation and they only were paying for occupational accident insurance. Another profit center for them besides making 30% on all moves. Hazmat they charge 125 per load and pay the driver 50. Sometimes they do have boxes pre-pulled to the yard before an appointment but i make sure that they pay me full rate if they don't i don't take the move. the other day i couldn't make it back to the pier so the dispatcher pulled out an empty for me in advance but gave me a box to pull out from another pier to make up for it. Good news they are not taking out the 5% anymore for workmans comp. the pay detention after 2 hours at a rate of 30 an hour or 7.50 every 15 minutes. they charge 16 dollars every fifteeen minutes. there bare better companies out there. I know it!!!!

big daddy will cause you to loose every thing the talked one of my drivers into running when he was out of hours then fired him because he got a log book violation. not to mention the money they have screwed me out of. its bad when your truck is paid for and you still go in the hole. how do you run 2000 miles and get a check for 200.00dollars on one truck and 15 dollars on the other

i read new jersey drivers filed a law suit in the northeast over the stealing at this company. i don't know how it turned out. it seems big daddy does same thing where ever they open a terminal.
